Reeves-Reed Arboretum, a public arboretum and former historic estate with landscapes designed by Calvert Vaux, Ellen Biddle Shipman, and Carl Pilat, seeks a garden intern for the Spring 2014 season. The internship program at Reeves-Reed Arboretum is designed for individuals who are currently enrolled in a horticulture or related program or who might be returning to school and want to learn more about a career in public garden management.
The Internship provides hands-on experience to learn the practical aspects of growing and maintaining an historic garden and native plant areas. Applicant should have enthusiasm for horticulture and gardening, the ability to lift and carry 40 lbs. and perform manual work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Prior gardening experience is desirable but not necessary. Must have a valid driver's license and be 18 or older.
HOURS and COMPENSATION:
This position is offered April – June 2014 with full and part time schedules available. Start and end dates are flexible. Working hours are generally 8:00 – 4:00 with some evening and weekend work as needed. No financial compensation is offered for this position; Reeves-Reed Arboretum is pleased to work with the intern's educational institution to provide documentation of internship status for academic credit.
