Why Garlic and Potatoes?
I've been on a quest to master the art of growing garlic, and potatoes are simply fun for children to grow and harvest.
This quest to grow garlic began in 2017, when I planted the first garlic crop, in the Reeves-Reed Arboretum's Square Foot Garden, and harvested dismally tiny garlic bulbs, in the summer of 2018.

Yes, we are! A "Monarch Waystation" that is. After researching about the Monarch Waystation program, I discovered that we already had a designated ID #, which means we have been a waystation for quite some time. We are station #194 on the www.monarchwatch.org/waystations/ monarch map. Annually we have seen the monarch and her eggs and the caterpillar on our milkweed plants.
First of all, it's pronounced "bone-sigh," not banzai. Bonsai means "potted plant" in Japanese, an appropriately understated description of a great – and greatly misunderstood – art form. Banzai, on the other hand, is a Japanese war cry, derived from the phrase "may you live ten thousand years."
