The Arboretum grounds will be CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC Sunday, June 4 and Saturday, June 10 for private events.
Beginning on May 4, 2022, New Jersey will ban single-use plastic bags, as well as paper bags at large grocery stores. Back in November 2020, the bill to ban bags was signed into law, but allowed for an 18-month grace period to give stores and consumers to time to prepare.
Large grocery stores, such as Shop-Rite, Acme, and Trader Joe’s, will no longer be allowed to offer you paper bags! However, non-grocery and retail stores, like your favorite boutique, will still be able to hand you your purchase in a paper bag.
What do you need to do to be prepared?
Purchase reusable bags so you’re not juggling your bread, milk, and eggs through the grocery store parking lot! The Arboretum has reusable bags perfect to help you tote home your veggies, fruit, and everything else! And you'll be doing two wonderful things for the environment - cutting down on waste and supporting the Arboretum!
You can purchase your bags ($5 each or 2 bags for $8) by stopping in the Arboretum office Tuesdays through Fridays 10am-4pm, or email t.cassin@reeves-reedarboretum.org to have your bags mailed to you (for a small shipping fee.)
