Winter is a wonderful time to accomplish much of the necessary pruning in your garden space. Structural branching patterns of many of your trees and shrubs become plainly evident after leaf drop. Pruning is an art form and there are many ways and styles of doing it correctly. Our Curatorial Director of Horticulture John Beirne will share all the best practices in pruning to help participants take better control of their gardening space while making informed and correct pruning decisions.
An afternoon of hands on, instructional pruning to learn the Why, What, When and How of late winter pruning. Some of the questions which will be addressed are: Why do we prune? How do we know when to prune? Is there a right and a wrong way to prune? How do I prune and keep the integrity of the plant I’m pruning? and What are the best tools to use?
This program takes place outdoors, so be sure to dress warmly and comfortably, boots and gloves recommended, bring pruners.
