Girl Project Summer Camp

Summit Area Public Foundation awards grant to Reeves-Reed Arboretum and The Connection for

GIRL PROJECT Summer Camp

Summit, NJ:  Thanks to a collaboration grant from the Summit Area Public Foundation, The Connection for Women and Families and Reeves-Reed Arboretum will offer the Girl Project, a joint summer environmental science and empowerment camp program targeting Latina Girls ages 11 – 14 from low income families in Summit.  This will be a scholarship program offering two, two-week sessions (July 29 – August 9; August 12 – August 23), for 15 students per session.

Participants will start their days at the Arboretum in the greenhouse, working in the beautiful gardens, or hiking the woodland trails.  Led by RRA's Environmental Educators, campers will discover the mysteries of the ecosystems and analyze the woodlands.  Weekly field trips to the Passaic River and Great Swamp will provide opportunities to learn about the plants and animals living in the local wetlands.  Of special note, FOX News Meteorologist, Maria Molina, will lead the campers in a roundtable discussion of opportunities in the science field.

The second half of the day, campers will be transported from the Arboretum to The Connection where they will have a chance to choose from one of the specialty programs focusing on performing arts and film, gymnastics, and other sports-related activities like swimming, soccer, tennis, etc.

For more information and registration, please contact The Connection at 908-273-4242.
