NJPAC Wells Fargo Jazz for Teens Alumni Concert Wows Arboretum Audience
Summit, NJ This past Wednesday evening, June 26, the very talented alumni from NJPAC's Wells Fargo Jazz for Teens program opened Reeves-Reed Arboretum's summer concert series, Sounds of a Summer Night. The threatening thunder clouds did little to dampen the enthusiasm and anticipation of the audience who welcomed these young performers to the stage. And their reward, a solid hour of classic jazz repertoire complete with soaring riffs of improvisation.
The Arboretum and its partner NJPAC believe in the power of arts education as a transformational tool for empowerment, growth, and community stewardship.
NJPAC will be welcomed back for the next concert in the series scheduled for Wednesday evening, July 10, in a concert of cabaret and theatre music performed by the Summer Youth Performance Workshop. This very special program offers students the opportunity to study acting, modern dance, musical theatre and vocal music with professionals in each field. Students then develop and shape performance pieces for special concerts like the one scheduled at the Arboretum.
Sounds of a Summer Night continues on Wednesday evening, July 10. The grounds will close to the general public at 5 pm and reopen to concertgoers at 6 pm for picnicking. The concert will begin at 7 pm. There is a minimum $10 donation at the door. Thanks to underwriting by Investors Savings Bank, this series is free to all RRA members.
Sounds of a Summer Night is made possible, in part, by support from Nick and Tracy McKee, and by the Grand Summit Hotel. For more information about this series and other programs and events at Reeves-Reed Arboretum, please visit our website, www.reeves-reedarboretum.org, or call, 908-273-8787.
