INTERNATIONAL JAZZ VOCALIST AND GRAMMY NOMINEE CYRILLE AIMÉE RETURNS TO REEVES-REED ARBORETUM FOR SUNDAY NIGHT JAZZ
SUMMIT, NJ Reeves-Reed Arboretum is excited to welcome back GRAMMY nominated singer and songwriter, Cyrille Aimée, for a Sunday evening of jazz with pianist Mathis Picard on April 23, 2023 at 7 pm. The duo promises a “sneak peek” of their upcoming new album and a dazzling performance highlighting Aimee’s intoxicating charm, storytelling, and improvisation. Aimée’s supple, diverse voice and eclectic style blends influences of her French and Latin upbringing, as well as folk and pop.
Born and raised in France, and now living in New Orleans, Aimée has recorded 13 albums and won countless accolades including the Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition and the Sarah Vaughn International Jazz Vocal Competition. As an actress, Aimée co-starred with Bernadette Peters in a Stephen Sondheim tribute at New York’s City Center which inspired her to dig deeper into Sondheim’s repertoire, resulting in her fourth album, Move On: A Sondheim Adventure. Aimée's rendition of Marry Me a Little earned her a GRAMMY nomination for Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals, in 2019. She has shared her story via master classes, a TEDx talk, and addresses at the Conference on World Affairs.
Mathis Picard is a French-Malagasy pianist, composer, producer, and bandleader. Rooted in the tradition of live acoustic performance while incorporating the latest musical technology, Picard’s style is formed by his multi-cultural background. Named a “rising star” by The Scotsman, Picard is an ASCAP Next Generation of Songwriters Recipient, a member of the Montreux Jazz Foundation, and a Juilliard Alumni under the mentorship of Kenny Barron.
